Climb Mount Kinabalu with friends

Share the challenge of a lifetime with friends as you scale this captivating landmark and celebrate by watching a spectacular sunrise at the summit.

Nothing brings people closer than a shared challenge, and climbing Mount Kinabalu, south-east Asia’s highest peak, is one such experience that you and your friends will cherish for years afterwards.

Standing at over 2.4 miles high, this breathtaking mountain is the mysterious gem of Mount Kinabalu National park, Malaysia’s first World Heritage Site. The captivating landmark is steeped in fascinating local legend – natives believe the spirits of their ancestors reside at its peak, and folklore deems it unlucky to sound too cheerful while climbing your way to the top.

You and your companions will be buzzing with excitement and anticipation as you gather at Park HQ and survey the jagged silhouette of the awesome mount you’re about to scale.
Your apprehension will soon dissolve as you set off together just before noon, taking the first tentative steps of your ascent. Your climb will take you through constantly changing terrain, from lush tropical rainforest to montane oaks, and you’ll marvel at the wonders of your natural surroundings as you continue ever upwards in your quest to reach the barren granite of Kinabalu’s summit.

By evening, you’ll reach the sanctuary of the mountain huts that are your base for the night, and gratefully grab a few hours sleep – if you’re not too busy reminiscing and bonding over your incredible climb so far. At 2am, it’s time to rise and tackle the home strait – a tough, final push to the mountain’s peak accompanied by a guide.

You’ll need to support each other when spirits flag and tired legs ache, but any discomfort will quickly fade when you finally reach the top of the mountain and a view none of you will ever forget. As the sun rises, bathing the exquisite natural landscape below in silvery morning light, you and your friends will share a moment of awe and togetherness that cannot be matched.
