Eat, Pray, Love inspires travel

Eat, Pray, Love hits cinemas this month, based upon the bestselling memoir of Elizabeth Gilbert. Liz’s quest for fulfilment takes her to Rome, India and Bali, and to celebrate the release of the film we’ve put together some top tips on where to stay and what to do in these three incredible destinations.

Rome
Known as ‘Caput Mundi’ (capital of the world), Rome contrasts a sprawling metropolis with mysterious ancient relics. Here Liz discovers the true pleasure of nourishment as she samples the rich cuisine, and learns Italian at Scuola Leonardo Da Vinci.

Kuoni recommends

  • Stay at the five star Hotel d’Inghilterra. The former 17th-century home of the noble Torlonia family, this stunning hotel sits near the city’s most exclusive shopping areas.
  • Experience Rome by night and discover the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica, the Colosseum, Palatino, the Theatre of Marcellus, Vatican City and St Peter’s Basilica.
  • Discover Rome from the sky in a helicopter, taking in breathtaking views of the city of emperors.

India
Exotic India is a melting pot of cultures and customs, fragrant spices and rich fabrics, palaces, forts, and languages. Millions of people flock here to explore their spiritual side, and it’s here that Liz discovers the power of prayer – she stays in a sacred temple and spends hours meditating under the guidance of a wise guru.

Kuoni recommends:

  • Realign your body and soul at Surya Samudra Kovalam, an Ayurvedic and yoga retreat.  Set on the top of a cliff overlooking pristine beaches, it’s a living expression of Kerala’s ancient and vibrant civilisation. With the Ayurveda Package, you’ll stay in a spa cottage with meals prescribed by the Ayurvedic practitioner in consultation with the chef, a daily Ayurvedic therapy, daily yoga sessions and consultations.
  • Varanasi is often called the ‘soul of India’, and devout Hindus come here to purify their body and soul in the River Ganges. The Ganges is believed to carry the mystical powers from the gods at the peaks of the Himalayas to this holy city.
  • Stay at the Gateway Hotel Ganges in Varanasi – this great-value hotel is managed by the prestigious Taj group.

Bali
This may not be the first destination that springs to mind when you think of romance, but it’s considered one of the most magical places on earth. In Eat, Pray, Love, it’s here that Liz finally finds true love.

Kuoni recommends:

  • Spend some time at the Bali Hyatt. Set on the beautiful Sanur beachfront, this amazing resort boasts authentic Balinese decor and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
  • Visit Ubud, Bali’s the cultural centre – a hotspot for literati and artistic types, with exquisite beaches and endless shopping. While here, stay at Alila Ubud, a stylish hill-top retreat with glorious views of the valley.
  • Explore Ubud, Gili and Lombok with our tailor made itinerary that takes in vibrant Ubud, the laidback Gili Islands and tropical Lombok.
